This site has been created to help with the selection of a suitable Windows registry cleaner for computers displaying registry repair problems. Clearly a registry cleaner is not going to mend a computer that has been damaged by a virus attack for example, where crucial files have been damaged or deleted. The same can be said of computers with corrupted or missing files required for the correct running of software programs or the operating system. In these cases a registry cleaner is of little value as the system is fundamentally broken. Having said that, I have had many cases where a registry cleaner has saved me a load of work, where I would others wise have been reinstalling software or operating systems unnecessarily.

There are free registry repair downloads but they are no where near as good as a paid for registry cleaner. The support is not there and the products are not upgraded as often and they do not have the feature or benefits of a paid for registry cleaner. I will not be recommending any free registry cleaners as they are way to limiting, and with more and more fake software out there on the Internet you could be installing Trojan software on to your computer without realising. If you are not a tech then I strongly recommend you leave your registry alone.
Changing things in the registry, especially en mass with some crapware, is a great way to really mess up your computer.
If you have a specific problem that requires a change to your registry… then you’re far better off finding a reliable and highly qualified tech to handle it… or backing up the registry and very very carefully correcting that one particular issue by itself.

Repairing a Damaged MBR
Your Windows XP
setup CDROM has a tool called the Recovery Console, which is designed to help you repair a damaged master boot record or boot sector. To start the Recovery Console and fix your damaged MBR, follow these steps:
1. Restart your computer with the Windows XP Setup disk in the CDROM drive.
2. If you are prompted to press a key to start the computer from CDROM, do so quickly. Otherwise it may try to boot from the hard drive.
3. After a few minutes, you’ll see a prompt to press the R key to start the Recovery Console.
4. When Recovery Console starts, it will prompt you to enter a number corresponding to the Windows XP installation that you need to repair. In most cases, you’ll enter "1" (which will be the only choice).—->> If you press ENTER without typing a number, Recovery Console will quit and restart your computer.<<—-
5. Enter your Administrator password. If you don’t enter the correct password, you cannot continue. If you don’t have a password, press Enter.
6. At the Recovery Console command prompt"C:\", type fixboot and verify that you want to proceed, then type fixmbr and then verify that you want to proceed.
7. Press Ctrl+alt+delete and remove the windows cd.
If this doesn’t work, repeat steps 1-5 and then type chkdsk /r and allow it about 30 minutes to run through a scan disk repair.

Hi, can someone please tell me how I can fix empty registry keys on my computer? I keep scanning with Regcure and it keeps telling me that I have 100+ empty registry keys. Also, is empty registry keys the cause for a slow start up? My computer really started slowing down lately and I’m not sure why. Thanks for any help

I have used the following 2 programs on my computer to clear /fix and condense the registry on my computer and also the hard drive of any empty, old files, and temporary files, etc. for 2 years without any issues and keeping my pc running fast with minimal problems. The 2 programs can be found at www.download.com and are known as WISE REGISTRY CLEANER, AND WISE DISK CLEANER. They are GREAT free programs! The disk cleaner program can be set to run in automatic or manual mode; all you need to do is double click the icon to have it fix the hard drive then close in automatic mode!

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software – Microsoft – Windows – CurrentVersion – Policies – System
You may create system item if it is not exist in policies, then add a DWORD string called RestrictRun in system item, value is 1, then you may add some strings which value is program name you want.
For example, 1 word.exe 2 notepad.exe

no they wont– the problem you describe is caused by either two brands of drive that dont like each other or due to drive jumpers being incorrectly set. One other possibility is if you have Windows 98 and have put in a drive that was formatted with a newer operating system then you would get the same error msg.
