How do I fix my computer that starts up but goes to a black screen?

My computer starts fine, but the screen is black once I get logged in and everything. It pops up my documents on a black screen and has no taskbar or start menu. I can navigate from there to get on internet or run any applications, so it is running fine, but the screen stays black and I can’t access the start menu or taskbar. I don’t know what to do to even try to fix it.

Why does my computer keep freezing when I play online games? And how do I fix it?

No matter what online game site I go to, my computer freezes up while I’m in the middle of playing. What can I do to stop this?

Freezing of the computer during any games can be related to several things. This is by far NOT a complete list.

First – and most simple:
1. Click START
2. Click RUN
3. Type chkdsk /F in the RUN box – Press Enter
4. A black command window will open and state it cannot lock the drive. It will ask if you want chkdsk to run on the next start up. Press Y for yes; the window will then close
5. Reboot the computer and let it reboot. It will begin to check the hard drive for error. Let it complete, but be aware it can take a while to complete.
6. After it makes repairs, the computer will reboot as normal. try your games again.

Another thing to do is check with the PC maker for updated Video, Sound, and Chipset drivers.

If there are updates, install the Chipset drivers first, then sound, then Video, REBOOT between each install!

Unfortunately, without any more information concerning when the computer locks up, do you get repeating sound when it does this? Does everything on the screen freeze, etc. Also, computer specifications are also necessary to make a better diagnosis.
A trip to a local PC repair shop for a full diagnosis may be in order if the above listed doesn’t help.

How do I get passed the blue screen of death?

When I boot my computer no matter what I do I end up at the blue screen saying there are errors. I do not have a windows xp cd, as my computer came with it installed already. How can I fix this?

Write down the error number and plug that into google. See what comes up.

If you do not have a cd, maybe you have a recovery partition. When booting up try hitting f11 to boot into it.

Can I fix a computer with a virus on a shared wireless network without it infecting my other computers?

My friend’s computer is infected with a virus. I think I can fix it myself, but I don’t know if I should bring over here to download the things I need without infecting the wireless router and my computer.

It depends, if it’s a worm, there is a chance to infect the other computer. But not all worms are designed to spread via wireless network, most of them are created to spread via flash drives, etc.

So you can fix it without infecting the other computers.

To be sure, disconnect the other computer while you are fixing the infected computer.

How to fix a slow computer?

The laptop has 3 GB of RAM and a 32-bit operating system. The computer has already been defraged(no speed difference after defrag), scaned for viruses(none found), the temporary files and browsing history has been deleted and the computer is still running slow. What else could be done to make it a bit faster? It takes like 10-15 min to fully load the computer when it has been turned on and 5 min. for a internet page to load

Try to reformat the hard drive:
1. Back up all documents, files, pics, etc.
2. Reformat the hard drive.
3. Install operating system (Windows XP, Vista, Mac, Linux)
4. Upload all your backups

After you reformat your computer will look like the first day you bought it.
I used DBan, and it works very well – It sweeps your hard drive three times to make sure it gets rid of everything. Just make sure you back up EVERYTHING you need, you will not get a second chance to get that document back. Programs you can reinstall later on.
